Great guys doing great work
Shameful, shady, and disrespectful are the only words I can use to describe this place and Ken specifically. DO NOT give them your business.
I am not the type to complain, but I feel thatr a review, for the sake of others, is warranted due to my experience at the Tuffy on Dupont. I usually get my oil changed at the Tuffy on Coldwater w/o complication. The staff on Coldwater are knowledgeable, friendly, and not pushy with sales. I decided to use the location on Dupont a couple weeks ago and now know that although the facilities bear the same name, they are not ran by the same people. I went in for an oil change and gave the attendant my keys and then began to wait at one of the seats. I had bought a car care package that came with a few "deals", one of which is a service where the mechanic checks over some basic things like tire pressure; i made sure the Tuffy team knew i wanted my oil changed and this extra look over. Within a few minutes another customer came in and started bargaining with the service rep on some of the pricing he was getting on a battery and his oil change. The service rep obliged the man since the customer was the cousin (or some relative) of the owner. At that point it seemed fair that i ask for a discount too, but i decided not to barter with them as i was fine with the original price. After waiting a little while a mechanic came out of the shop to talk to me about my vehicle. He stated that i needed an air filter and the corrosion on my battery needed cleaned. I am familiar with the up-sell tactic and hesitated before confirming both the filter and cleaning. It was truly only a couple moments before the mechanic said something along the lines of "look, i dont care if you get it done or not." His impatience was definitely not of an attitude that he cared about my vehicle or me. I decided to go ahead and have the filter replaced and battery cleaned which was an extra charge of around $50 which i later found out i could clean on my own for about $5. Checking out took a little longer than expected, but nothing extreme.
Ken proceeded to use fear tactics, making it seem like the car could not be driven off their lot. He specifically took advantage of the fact that my girlfriend didn't know enough about cars to force her to get the repair done right then and there.
Great customer service! The manager Scott Johnson is so nice and very knowledgeable. I never worry about getting ripped off or that my car will not be in good hands. Very trustworthy car service. They are the best!
My girlfriend brought her car in for an oil change and a brake inspection.
Afterward, I decided to call Ken myself to get the details of the repair. He was extremely condescending and defensive when I questioned the price of parts and whether or not we could use less expensive parts to get the job done. I have to wonder how this interaction would have gone if he were talking to a male from the beginning instead of a female.
Ken called my girlfriend after the vehicle was up on the lift and claimed our rotors were "glowing red hot" upon inspection (which is not possible considering you would have to do 100 mph down the highway with the E-Brake on to get that to happen, especially by the time they got it on a lift and got the wheels off)
Great professional service honest people
The reason i chose to write this review is due to the fact that i left the service center and got home only to see that my tires still looked low on air. I checked the receipt i received from Tuffy and the mechanic noted that he had checked my tires and all were 32psi. I checked them myself and they ranged from 20-26psi. By this time it was after hours and i called and left a voicemail for the manager to call me back since i was now a little disappointed and i felt as though the mechanic lied when he said he checked my tire pressure. He called me back the next day while i was at work and left a voicemail saying he would like to resolve this issue with me. I called and asked for him Mon-Fri and never heard back from him. I believe the managers name was Ken, and the guy answering the phone was Scott. Scott would always say that Ken (the manager or owner) was going to call me back but he never did after the initial call.
