I love this country parish because of the welcoming nature of its parishioners. When I first attended Mass at St. Patrick Church, three individuals introduced themselves. One invited me to join an adult group that was meeting. This parish loves its priests. Msgr. Thad Belinda, from Uganda, greets families and individuals after Mass. Many hug him. Others pause to chat. Our Monsignor prefers to be called Fr. Thad. When my husband of 43 year had to be taken off life support, Fr. Thad came to the hospital to pray over him. Father was there for my beloved non-Catholic husband. Father performed a lovely service for my husband at the funeral home. Father cared for me as I grieved. Words of encouragement and simply being a good listener are hallmarks of Father Thad. His homilies offer congregants insights into the day's reading so that we can apply Jesus' words to our lives. St. Patrick Church of Arcola is a gem of a parish. Relationships form the foundation of everything that happens at our parish. A more welcoming group of people would be hard to find.
